Meet Our Coaches: 20 Questions With Hallie Murphy

  1. How did you become passionate about fitness? I went to college to be a special education teacher because I love kids and helping others. When life threw me a curve ball, I was able to pivot to fitness because it always made me happy. I’m very patient so I love working with beginner clients. 
  2. What makes Ripped special? The community and the trainers. I know every studio says they have the best clients but Ripped really does. We’re really like family here 
  3. Type of exercise that kicks your ass? Anything that Katie sends me lol. I love heavy Hip Thrusts
  4. Favorite athlete? I always loved Michael Jordan and even wore his number when I played basketball as a kid. I would say now would be Shalane Flanagan (marathon) and Lexi Thompson (golf)
  5. What are you listening to during your workouts? Surprisingly I listen to pop punk music from the mid 2000’s when I’m lifting heavy or doing sprints. Think Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, or New Found Glory. 
  6. Coolest place you’ve visited? Aruba for my best friend’s wedding in 2019. LA was a cool place for a marathon 
  7. If you didn’t live in Philly where would you live? Hmm not sure. I never really left this area but maybe Southern California. 
  8. Celebrity doppelgänger? Anne Hathaway
  9. Your last meal on earth? gnocchi in vodka sauce
  10. In a second life, you would be… meteorologist or egyptologist
  11. Describe yourself with 1 emoji… 😊
  12. Quote you try to live by? The secret to getting ahead is getting started. Even though I’m a trainer, I’m not always motivated. But once I get my workout started, I’m glad I did it.
  13. Favorite weekend activity? In the summer, sitting on the beach with a white claw or rose and a book, taking a long walk with Bogey, or at the driving range. 
  14. Best advice for someone considering a career in fitness? try out different studios or gyms to see which is the best fit. there are so many different formats and styles for everyone
  15. What are the lessons you’ve learned through fitness? that I can do anything that I put my mind on. never in a million year did I think I would a marathon
  16. A fun fact about you that may surprise people? Hmm ask me and find out!
  17. What are you most proud of? That I was able to make the switch to fitness and make it a full time job.
  18. Favorite sports team? Whoever is winning or has a hot quarterback, especially college teams. I’ll support all Philly teams 
  19. Favorite muscle group to work? Butt and Back
  20. Where are you from? Born in Newark, Delaware and lived in Carney’s Point, NJ until I was 12. Then lived in Cape May, NJ until I was 15. Then I moved to Maple Shade, NJ before going to college in Lawrenceville, NJ then moved to Philly.
